Master Motion Design with Ben Marriott

During the winter of 2021, I completed Ben Marriott’s animation course, Master Motion Design. This advanced animation course focused on key animation techniques & practical After Effects skills. I learned new techniques for morph animations, rigging complex effects, and 2D character animation.

Below is the final project from the course:

School of Motion: Expression Session

During the summer of 2020, I completed the School of Motion course Expression Session. The class is taught by two fantastic animators, Nol Honig and Zack Lovatt, and focuses on using JavaScript to create procedural, responsive designs within After Effects. I learned to automate repetitive tasks, build flexible rigs for animation, and how to do things that are impossible with keyframes.

Below is a selection of projects from the course, animated entirely through code:

School of Motion: VFX for Motion

In late 2019 I was invited to the Beta of the School of Motion course VFX for Motion. The instructor, Mark Christiansen, literally wrote the book on After Effects. The course teaches best practices for Keying, Tracking, Rotoscoping, Matchmoving, and other important VFX tools. My favorite aspect of the course was compositing visual effects for Augmented Reality.

School of Motion: Advanced Motion Methods

In early 2019 I completed the School of Motion course Advanced Motion Methods. Taught by one of the top After Effects animators in the world, Sander van Dijk, we dissected style frames and animations by Buck, Gunner, Illo, Sarah Beth Morgan, Laura Alejo, Lucas Brooking, Gareth O’Brien, and Sander himself.
